Why insiders within the world of aquaculture refer to data as ‘Kontali data’
Kontali has collected production data, established the first production and market simulation models, and developed an extensive database on salmon, as well numerous other seafood segments.

The nearly 40-year-old company has secured its reputation as the leading knowledge-based consultancy and data provider for the global fish farming industry.

“International experts within the seafood industry rely on our data,” says Kjetil Angell Kjerstad, CEO of Kontali. “They trust our analysts and our digital platform that provides in-depth data and insight to make informed business decisions.”

For aquaculture farmers, investors in aquaculture, and traders and retailers, Kontali has built its brand and product offerings to become the go-to partner for navigating the complexities and opportunities in the seafood market.

Reputation established; the company has zero plans on staying stagnant. Far from it.

A new owner
In 2020, Kontali was acquired by Arendals Fossekompani as the first of a series of acquisitions by Alytic, a portfolio company specializing in developing and growing data-driven companies with strong domain competence. Alytic’s companies have recruited leading analysts and tech-teams who work together to transform existing products, create new products, and better understand clients and the market. In addition, commercial teams have been hired to improve and scale marketing and sales.

“Kontali is in an exciting phase where we are implementing new technology while maximizing the benefits of our current systems,” says Espen Zachariassen, CEO of Alytic.

Since the acquisition, Kontali has expanded its offering by including more species and geographies and is now widely regarded as a leading global competence centre on aquaculture and fisheries.
The new larger organisation will systematically accelerate product development and aim to please customers with modern delivery of aquaculture insight world-wide.

As of late
Having undergone a digital transformation, Kontali is now fully committed to a scale-up phase.

In addition to expanding their geographic presence with the addition of new offices in Oslo, Alytic has changed the competency mix within Kontali by adding technologists, product management, data scientists, a commercial team and a strong management group to take Kontali to the next level. The new larger organisation will systematically accelerate product development and aim to please customers with modern delivery of aquaculture insight world-wide.
