Currently, we are in the process of building a new hydropower plant. Located in the river Nidelva, between our two existing hydropower plants, Kilandsfoss hydropower plant will extract more energy from a river that already provides plenty of energy to local society.
Project update:
In December of 2025, the installation on eight turbines was successfully installed within a weeks time.
“This is a milestone worth noting for sure. What I’m most pleased about is the day went as planned and was problem free,” says Kilandsfoss Project Manager, Camilla Ellefsen.
Once completed, the Killandsfoss plant will produce approximately 38 GWh of renewable energy annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 2,000 households. The power plant is jointly owned by Åmli Municipality, Froland Municipality, and Arendals Fossekompani through the company Kilandsfoss AS.
“We’ve successfully moved on to the next phase of the project and are staying on track towards our completion date in May of 2026,” says Ellefsen.
Key partners:
AFK Vannkraft is involved in the project's technical team and provides the construction manager. AFK Vannkraft produces renewable energy from two hydropower plants in the Arendal watercourse to households and industry. The development of Kilandsfoss hydropower plant also includes the necessary infrastructure for the paddling facility, financed by Kilandsfoss AS. The paddling club will additionally receive a base grant to optimize the paddling course and further develop the surrounding area.
This project marks our first hydropower newbuild in almost 100 years. We are proud to continue our legacy of providing people and communities with clean energy and are pleased to share our progress.
