Did you always know you wanted to be an accountant?
"It was a little random. I was inspired by my parents' similar careers, so numbers were always part of the conversation growing up. I've always liked working with them, and I like to say I think the same way as an Excel sheet. Tables and columns just make sense to me.
Why did you choose to work at Arendals Fossekompani?
"It was a calculated choice which is fitting for an accountant! I was previously working at an office in Vegårshei and wanted to work closer to home while my children were small. When I came across this role, it was at a time I was ready to take on new challenges. I liked the tasks, I liked the environment, and I got a great impression of the people I met during the interview process.”
Can you describe a typical workday?
"There are many parts of my job that are routine. Following up on payments, and reporting tasks that shift depending on where we are in the financial period. But outside of those routines, there's real room for development. We're continuously working to improve group reporting, streamline our systems and make our processes more efficient. That's where my role really takes shape. I have a lot of freedom in how I approach challenges and structure my work, which I value.
What motivates you to excel in your role?
"It's a blend of two things. I enjoy the independence that comes with the job. It’s satisfying to own your work and solve problems your own way. But the team culture matters just as much. We can laugh together, and that social element is important to me. An effective workday can’t be all about staring at a screen.”
When you step away from the world of financial reporting, what do you like to do?
"I am interested in interior design. I seriously love it! So much so that I found a way to make it part of work too. I ended up being the designer of our company cabin, which was a fun project. Give freedom and a floor plan and I'm completely in my element."
