For Volue, the acquisition represents a strategic entry into one of Europe’s most dynamic and advanced energy markets. The move combines Quorum’s deep UK market expertise with Volue’s comprehensive electrification software suite spanning data and forecast, trading, optimisation and planning, asset operations, and distribution.

Volue will work alongside Quorum to support customers navigating increasing system complexity, while supporting them to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the UK market’s rapid electrification.

Based in Sedgefield, County Durham, Quorum provides critical software and infrastructure to the UK energy industry. Quorum’s software suite is the leading solution underpinning UK market communication between energy market participants and the Balancing Mechanism – the real-time marketplace operated by the National Energy System Operator (NESO) that ensures balance of power supply and demand. Quorum’s software is the choice of over two thirds of the market and supports the operation of more than 53GW of capacity across all generation and storage asset classes.

Co-founded by Paul Fothergill, Quorum was established to solve a critical industry challenge: enabling energy operators to deploy robust, fully integrated technology solutions without the need to build bespoke systems or manage multiple suppliers.

“This transaction marks a major milestone in Quorum’s growth journey and is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team. Over the years, we’ve built a business that plays a critical role in supporting the UK’s energy infrastructure, helping operators manage increasingly complex systems with resilience and precision,” says Paul Fothergill, Managing Director of Quorum,

“We are proud to welcome Quorum to Volue. Together, we will empower UK energy companies with world-class digital solutions, strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure, and support a secure, sustainable energy system for the future,” says Stephan Sieber, CEO of Volue
“The UK is at the forefront of the energy transition, with increasing system complexity, real-time balancing requirements, and ambitious decarbonisation targets. Quorum has built an outstanding business with deep technical expertise and an exceptional reputation across the UK energy sector, and we look forward to enhancing this further.”

“This acquisition strengthens Volue’s position in one of Europe’s most dynamic energy markets and is an important step in the company’s continued expansion,” says Benjamin Golding, CEO of Arendals Fossekompani.

As part of Volue, Quorum will continue to operate from its base in County Durham, retaining its local presence and customer relationships while benefiting from the scale, innovation and international reach of Volue.
