Whether contributing globally or engaging in local initiatives in Arendal, Magnus brings both depth and perspective to Arendals Fossekompani’s role as a long-term industrial investor. When he’s not at work, Magnus enjoys quality time with family and friends, recently stepped into fatherhood, and likes to unwind on the water in his 18-foot day cruiser.
When did you start working at Arendals Fossekompani, and what’s your typical day as an investment manager like?
Since January 2020, I’ve been part of Arendals Fossekompani as an Investment Manager, and no two days are the same. I work across our portfolio on everything from strategic and operational improvements to M&A and building new business streams.
Through board positions, I support strong teams in companies like NSSLGlobal in London and Cellect in Barcelona. It’s a hands-on role that combines problem-solving with a long-term mindset. Challenging? Absolutely. Rewarding? Even more so.
How do you approach and implement active ownership in your work?
Active ownership means different things depending on the company’s stage. In mature companies, I act as a strategic sparring partner. In earlier-stage businesses, I often contribute more operationally, whether it’s structure, strategy, or tech. Being closely involved gives valuable insight into what drives performance and where support is most needed.
How do you see AFK’s role evolving as an industrial investor in a rapidly changing global market?
Arendals Fossekompanis strength lies in our long-term perspective. We’re able to stay committed through market shifts and geopolitical changes. Our portfolio remains strong, with several companies aligning closely with public-sector priorities like infrastructure and security. While most of my work is global, I also enjoy contributing locally through our real estate portfolio and cultural initiatives in Arendal.
When I’m not at work, you can find me…
With my background in engineering, programming and mathematical modeling from my time studying Industrial Economics and Technology Management (INDØK) at NTNU, I’ve always liked digging into complex problems, which also applies to some geeky side projects of mine.
