Ingunn Ettestøl (left), Magnus Johansen and Kirsti Homstøl have prepared Arendals Fossekompani's report for Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility 2019.

“For more than 120 years, Arendals Fossekompani has been in the renewable energy business. Our history and our current contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, will be a more central part of operations and how we communicate,” says Ingunn Ettestøl, VP Business Development at Arendals Fossekompani.

She has led the work on the Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility Report for 2019.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals consist of 17 main objectives with a number of sub-goals.

“Arendal Fossekompani has chosen to focus on the two sustainable development goals that are relevant for the majority of our subsidiaries, and where we can make a difference,” says Ettestøl.

The two goals which AFK has identified as the most relevant are 7: Affordable and clean energy, and 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 7: CLEAN, AFFORDABLE ENERGY
Enabling access to reliable, sustainable and modern energy at an affordable price for everyone is in this company’s backbone. Throughout our own history, we have learned the importance of clean energy for development and sustainability. That’s why we invest in production and distribution of clean energy. The importance of energy efficiency measures is great, and our companies will contribute to doubling the world’s energy efficiency rate by 2030.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 9: INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE
We are also about industry, innovation and infrastructure. We built infrastructure for power generation and distribution as early as the 20th century. And we have played an important role in a collaboration that triggered an industrial adventure in Norway. Today we are a global supplier of technology, systems and solutions for electrical infrastructure, for the road network and for the building and construction sector.

SUSTAINABILITY OBJECTIVES 5 AND 8
In addition to being the parent company of our subsidiaries, Arendals Fossekompani has a traditional hydropower production, and owns several real estate projects such as Gullknapp Aerial Center and Bryggebyen. For these businesses, we will also prioritize measures and reporting in relations with Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality and Sustainability Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. These goals are in line with our values and our working methods.
